  • Have you recently acquired a handgun and are looking for instruction on how to safely use a firearm?  Have you recently obtained your NYS pistol permit and are seeking information about what type of handgun to purchase?  Do you want to enhance your marksmanship skills?
  • The Hol-Field Rod & Gun Club is happy to be able to provide you with these opportunities by offering the NRA First Steps Pistol Orientation Course.  This course is ideally suited for novices or those desiring to enhance their safe gun handling skills and is available to small groups (typically 1-3 students).  The course takes about 4 hours and involves both classroom instruction and live-fire exercises.
  • Topics covered include:
    • Rules for safe gun ownership and handling
    • Fundamentals of marksmanship
    • Selecting a firearm
    • Selecting ammunition
    • Cleaning and maintaining your firearm
    • Safe storage of firearms
    • Opportunities to enhance your shooting skills
  • The cost of the course is $95.  Arrangements can be made by contacting certified NRA instructor Don Rimai at  Please allow at least a 3 week lead time between scheduling and paying for the course and the mutually agreed upon date when the course will be held.
  • Students should bring a handgun (if they have one), at least 50 rounds of factory ammunition, hearing and eye protection, and a cleaning kit, if they have one, for their firearm. Students who have not yet purchased a firearm may be able to make arrangements with the instructor to use his at an additional cost for the ammunition.
